Miłosz writes (says Sherry) that Patna is… Poland.

They none understand — none:  that one need not feel obliged by the accident of his thrownness; that one can leave and never look back; and that once one enters the magical circle of South East Asia, where one comes from in Europe becomes totally irrelevant and absolutely nobody cares.

Which, in turn, allows one not to care, either.
